New Here?

(Here are some commonly asked questions to get you started.)

WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?

God, Jesus Christ and the Spirit are our foundation. We are grounded in the Bible, the sacraments of baptism and communion, and the liturgical church year. We sing hymns old and new, accompanied by organ or piano, in an architecturally traditional worship space. We are engaged in faith formation throughout our whole lives. We honor our Christian heritage without being bound by it.

AM I SAFE?

We value diversity and open expressing of ideas. Wentz strives to provide an emotionally and physically safe and secure environment for all of God's people.

WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM MEMBERS?

One of our mottos is "Although we are small, we are mighty!" because we encourage all members to engage in the work of our savior. We all have a unique calling to serve and we expect ALL to comfortably participate.

HOW DO I BELONG?

Sometimes we meet in small groups. This helps us become closer to one another. We can connect more deeply one on one. This helps build trust in our congregants and foster commitment. We become invested in each other.

WHAT IS THE MUSIC LIKE?

Most African-American places of worship would confirm that their music ministry is special. However, the music ministry at Wentz UCC is most unique because Wentz music ministry provides standard contemporary gospel at a very high level, but it is also one of the few places of worship in Winston-Salem where African American spirituals are still performed, along with traditional hymns and occasional secular offerings in styles from jazz to Broadway. If you like all types of music, then Wentz UCC is unparalleled.
